A Little Bit of Stone has started an online petition which calls for changes to be made to the ring road in the town.
Hundreds of comments have appeared here on the site and on Facebook and Twitter from local people who have been caught in jams at peak periods and who have concerns about pedestrian safety and the effect on businesses in the town.
The epetition – lodged with Staffordshire County Council – calls for the authority to “take urgent steps to solve the many negative consequences following new traffic flow arrangements and pedestrian crossings on the Christchurch Way ring road in Stone. An immediate review of the current system must be carried out”.
You can sign the petition online here until 30th April.

I contacted Radio Stoke this morning after sitting in traffic in Stone this morning for 20 minutes. It was a similar story last night at aroubd 5.30p.m. when it took be about 10 minutes to get out of Morrisons Car Park. I rang Radio Stoke after listening to one of the County Council Commisioners responsible for the department that has made the changes on the radio around a week ago. Talk about wasting loads of tax payers money on something that didn’t need changing and which is now more dangerous for pedestrians, causes traffic to get clogged in one lane in Stone, and which has to be worse environmentally. I wonder if anyone at the County Council is really listening? So much for ‘Localism’.

I was one of the first to
complain and the receiving comments from a few like (we can get along Litchfield
road) but this was not a fact as time has shown that throwing large amounts of
OUR money has made the traffic flow far worse along with it being far more dangerous.
There have been far too many
near misses let alone accidents but our sticks in the Mud Councillors are to
pig headed to admit they are wrong Philip Jones Resign before someone gets
killed or seriously injured.

The total cost comes in above your figure, here is the official breakdown of the charges:The new traffic island at the junction of Christchurch Way and Lichfield Street cost £15,610The relocation of the pedestrian crossing on Christchurch Way then cost £14,706The new pedestrian crossing on Mill Street then cost £24,040The barriers on Christchurch Way, which try to stop people crossing where the pedestrian crossing used to be, cost £12,454A grand total of £66,810We are basically saying £70,000…to make traffic flow in Stone worse off at all times not just peak!
Bonsoirbonsoir
According to a freedom of information request, the costings are now in.
So far, the Island at the bottom of Christchurch Way cost just above £15,000 to put in. The other work, to solve the problem of traffic congestion, has cost £50,000.
Why was £50,000 spent to solve a problem, when the cheapest solution was to revert to the old road layout?
Philip Jones should resign.
