People in Stone looking to take part in this year’s Stafford Half Marathon have been urged to get their entries in quickly as only 200 of the 2,500 places are left, with a record field now confirmed for the race in March.
An extra 500 spaces have been added to this year’s race, making it the largest field for more than 20 years. Registration is being held open until the 2,500 capacity is reached for the Stafford Borough Council-run event. And people can also apply for the School and Family Fun Run which takes place on the same day.
The 27th running of the half marathon will start in the town centre at 10am on Sunday 20th March. The route will head off into Stafford’s surrounding countryside on traffic-controlled roads, and includes two steady climbs before returning to the Market Square via Victoria Park.
Youngsters and families – many in fancy dress – will take part with a specially designated fun run course.
Councillor Mike Smith, cabinet member for leisure, said: “This event just keeps getting more popular which is why we have added extra spaces this year. The Stafford Half is now rightly seen as one of the top races in the county’s sporting calendar and if you still want to take part I’d urge you to get your entries in now.”
