Stone Dominoes will once again have a senior mens’ team representing the club next season after they announced news of the first team’s return earlier this year. And they’re holding an open trial on Saturday 27th June for any players looking to pull on a Dominoes’ shirt next season.
Following the resignation of the previous team at the end of the 2012 – 13 season from the North West Counties League, football at Wellbeing Park in Yarnfield has continued successfully with the large junior set up and more recently a hugely successful senior women’s team, but without a senior mens’ Dominoes side.
The newly formed side, to be led by joint managers Kyle Adams and Dom Ryder, will begin life in the Staffordshire County Senior League in the 2015-16 seaosn and the duo are hoping to put the club’s name back on the non-league map once again.
Ryder said: “It’s a big challenge but it’s one that excites us. Were grateful for the chance to manage this fantastic club and once we knew that the opportunity was there it was an easy one to make.”
Adams added: “We know success won’t come overnight but we both believe that with the work we are willing to put in, we can achieve our ambitions of making this a success and building a winning side. Were starting afresh so its a clean slate and a total re-build with the hope of providing a good platform for the future at the club.”
In terms of the squad, Ryder explained: “We’re optimistic with regards to the quality, as we have a number of players who we have worked with previously, but we have also received a lot of interest in the open trials day well be holding on Saturday 27th June. We’re looking to select a good blend of youth and experience but we’ll be constantly on the lookout to add that bit of quality to the group.”
Despite their lofty ambitions the pair are not getting carried away with expectations of what the side can achieve in their first season. Ryder said: “We’ll be hoping for a good pre-season which will consist of bedding the players in and getting them to buy into our philosophy of exciting, attacking football. We want to win as many games as we can during the first campaign, see where that takes us, and hopefully that will mean finishing towards the right end of the table.”
Following the club’s news there has been much interest from the footballing and local community alike, and it is clear that eyes will be firmly fixed on Wellbeing Park next season to see how the team fare in their debut season.
The open trial will take place at Longton Rugby Club (ST4 8WG) on Saturday 27th June at 1pm.
