Over 100 bikes were tagged by Staffordshire Police on Saturday as part of the Immobilise scheme, supported by local officers and Staffordshire County Council officials.
Stone PCSOs Jenny Ludlow-Smith and Ian Brewis were on hand at Morrisons all day helping to tag bikes and give advice on staying cycle safe. Also there was Cath Jenkinson, Staffordshire County Council Cycle Officer, who gave advice on bike safety and visibility on bikes. The team from the Bike Shack in Stone also attended and gave advice on bike maintenance.
Jack Welsh, Crime Reduction Officer for Stafford and Stone, said: “The Imobi tag can be fitted to anything but we are fitting them to bikes in this scheme. We have bought 1,500 tags overall including the ‘Grain of Rice’ which is glued into your frame and then registered to the Immobilise website. We are hoping people will get out and get their bike tagged to protect it if is gets stolen.”
PCSO Jenny Ludlow-Smith added: “Once I have made some home visits next week fitting the tags the grand total will be 110. We need as many people to get their bikes tagged so that we can help reunite bikes if they ever get stolen. The turnout has been fantastic.”
