Thursday 7th May is a landmark date for more than 200 teenagers in Stafford Borough as they will be entitled to vote for the first time.
The young people in Stone and across the borough will be able to join over 99,000 other voters in the borough to elect an MP and councillors for their area. A total of 228 young people who have celebrated their 18th birthdays since the previous poll in the borough – last year’s European Elections – are receiving letters from Acting Returning Officer, Ian Thompson.
Residents will be voting for an MP for the constituencies of Stone and Stafford, as well as 40 seats which are available on the borough council. There are also seats to be won in elections for Parish Councils.
In his letter, Mr Thompson, who is also the Chief Executive of the Borough Council, answers a number of questions that are often asked by first time voters.
He adds: “Democracy is something you only miss when it is not there. Taking part in the election gives you the ability to say how your country and local councils are run.”
