Staffordshire County Council has confirmed temporary traffic restrictions will be put in place to allow coring, drainage and resurfacing works to be carried out on several linked routes through Stone.

The works will affect Radford Street, Newcastle Street, Christchurch Way, Longton Road, Crown Street and Stafford Street.

The first phase of work is scheduled to begin on Monday 9 February. Overnight road closures are planned from 8 pm to 6 am for five nights starting on that date.

This will be followed by daytime works running from 9 am to 3 pm for five days from Monday 16 February.

The county council’s traffic order confirms the restrictions are needed to allow essential resurfacing and drainage works to be carried out safely.

During the closures, vehicles will not be permitted to travel along the affected sections of road unless they are being used in connection with the works, require access to properties directly along the route, or are being used by emergency services. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the works.

An alternative route for traffic will be in place and clearly signed on site. For more information,

The council says the first phase of works is expected to be completed by Friday 20 February. A second phase of work on the same stretches of road is currently scheduled to take place later in the year, between June and July.

Residents and businesses along the route may experience disruption during the closure periods, particularly during the overnight works, and drivers are being encouraged to allow extra time for journeys through the town.
