The level crossing between Station Road and Mount Road in Stone will be closed overnight this weekend to allow work on the railway to take place.
The crossing – by The Talbot pub – will be closed from 11.30pm on Saturday night (5th October) until 9am the following morning. Network Rail workers will be carrying out “major track renewal and upgrade work” on the West Coast Main Line.
A letter from ‘Centurion Traffic Management’ posted to householders on nearby Victor Street at the weekend urges people to “keep Victor Street clear of vehicles” while the level crossing is closed.
The letter states: “There will be a diversionary route signed for light vehicles, but you will no doubt be aware it is not suitable for HGVs gaining access to the Warburton’s bakery depot (on Mount Road industrial estate). We understand that on previous closures the vehicles have used Victor Street as their diversionary route but have problems with vehicles parked on the road. We are therefore asking you to please endeavour to keep Victor Street clear of vehicles.”
Where people in the street are expected to park their cars in the heavily congested Stonefield area isn’t explained!!
