Overnight closures planned as resurfacing work continues on A34 Pets at Home development

Pets at Home - A34The endless roadworks on the A34, by the new Pets at Home distribution centre, continue with overnight closures next week to allow for more resurfacing.

Two overnight closures, in both directions, will be needed for this phase of works to be completed between the A51 Aston roundabout and the A513 Redhill roundabout. The closures will take place on Wednesday, 29th November and Thursday, 30th November – between 8pm and 6am. A signed diversion route in place via A5013, A519, A51. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained during the closures.

The highways scheme includes improved cycling and pedestrian facilities, a signalised crossing, new bus stops and improved street lighting. It is scheduled for completion in the next few weeks.

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport David Williams said:

“We’re now reaching the final stages of this project, which provides access to the new Pets at Home development that is creating hundreds of jobs in our county.

“While road surfacing takes place, we will unfortunately need to put the overnight closures in place, helping us to do the work safely and as quickly as possible.

“We’d like to thank people for their understanding and look forward to the scheme’s completion in the coming weeks.”

Employment opportunities at the 670,000sq ft facility are being advertised and can be found at: www.petsathomejobs.com

I seem to recall that the work on the A34 to service the new Pets at Home centre was originally due to complete in Summer 2023. It appears yet another road project has well overrun its original timescale with all the resultant traffic disruption and restrictions. I wonder why so many projects take so long or are under estimated in terms of timescales by planners and contractors
On a number of occasions i have witnessed emergency vehicles being delayed within the construction site yet there is all too often appears not a lot of work going on.
As a frequent user of the A34 into Stafford the delays at the roundabout near the Audi Dealership at Creswell also are a frequent cause of delay with vehicles blocking the roundabout causing tailbacks on the A34. In short this main thoroughfare into Stafford is a serious problem that needs attention.
Let’s hope Stafford traffic becomes a lot easier as the town is becoming a place to avoid at the moment.
