An overnight road closure has been confirmed on the A34 Stone Road between the Monkey Forest roundabout and the Trentham Gardens roundabout as safety and vegetation works take place.
The closure will be in effect from 8 pm on Monday 2 February until 6 am on Tuesday 3 February 2026, or until the works are completed if earlier.
The restriction is being put in place under a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order issued by Stoke-on-Trent City Council to allow vegetation management and tree removal along the central reservation.
The affected stretch runs between the Monkey Forest roundabout and the Trentham Gardens roundabout, a key section of the A34 used daily by drivers travelling between Stone, Trentham and Stoke-on-Trent.
The overnight closure forms part of a wider programme of works which will see nearly 1,200 metres of vehicle safety barrier replaced along the central reservation of the A34 Stone Road. The overall scheme is expected to take around three weeks to complete.
After the overnight closure, traffic management will switch to lane closures during weekdays only. These will operate Monday to Friday, with the full two lane carriageway remaining open at weekends. No weekend closures are currently planned.
According to the order, pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the closure as far as possible. Access to properties and for emergency vehicles will also be maintained where possible.
Drivers are being advised to plan journeys in advance and allow extra time during weekday peak periods while the works are ongoing. The closure and any restrictions will only apply where indicated by traffic signs, cones or the direction of a uniformed police officer.
