‘Owl’s well that ends well!’

The owl and toadstool that were taken from the Brownies’ Stone in Bloom garden have been returned after being left outside someone’s front door in two carrier bags.

The clay owl and wooden toadstool – which were donated to the project by Brownie leader Helen Whetnall – were taken from the garden at the top of Abbey Street on Thursday (24th July).

The items turned up, in two carrier bags, outside Abbey Street resident Tony Panter’s from door on Friday.

Jill Hood from Stone in Bloom said: “Owl’s well that ends well! I like to think that someone has seen the media coverage and dumped the goods, and I’m so grateful to whoever it was. Thanks to Tony for letting us all know. Helen knows they have been recovered so is a happy leader once again. As for the toadstool it doesn’t leave mush-room for speculation that kids have taken them home and a kind parent has returned them both! Agnes the Brownie scarecrow on the garden is no worse for wear for her traumatic experience – but she still is refusing to speak about it!”

In Bloom judge Roger Bache said the Brownies’ garden typified the community spirit in Stone when he visited on judging duties on Friday 18th July.

We’ll find out in September if Stone has won a Heart of England in Bloom gold medal for the EIGHTH year running.
