Two friends from Stone are celebrating their 40th birthdays with a special challenge – visiting 40 different Staffordshire oatcake shops (and sampling their wares, obviously!).

Amanda White hits the big 4-0 in December, while Emma Young celebrated her big birthday in August. And they have put the famous Staffordshire treat at the heart of their birthday challenge.

Amanda said: “We have a group of close friends who are all fitness fanatics and are always setting themselves goals and targets but both me and Emma are not really into that, so we came up with the idea of visiting as many oatcake outlets as possible – and are there 40 in Staffordshire. I’m a Stokey bird, so I love oatcakes, but Emma has never in her life been to a proper oatcake shop. I’m looking forward to educating her!”

The pair kicked off their challenge at the Stone Food and Drink Festival earlier this month with some bacon-and-cheese oatcakes in the Titanic Brewery tent. They’ll now be making their way northwards over the next two or three months.

A Facebook page and Twitter account will be created for the oatcake challenge soon and photographer Amanda will be taking photos  as the challenge progresses.

Good luck (and happy eating) to them both!
