Stafford Borough Council’s consultation into the future of Stonefield Park’s aviary is now under way, with addresses near the park getting a questionnaire.
The questionnaire states: “The bird aviary is a traditional feature in Stonefield Park but is in need of replacement. Some people think the bird aviary provides an educational opportunity to see birds in your local environment and some feel that birds should not be kept in captivity. Your local councillors would like to ask your opinion.”
Among the questions is this one: Would you like to see the bird aviary refurbished or removed?
The closing date for completed questionnaires is Thursday 5th April.
£15,000 was allocated to refurbish the aviary – which has certainly seen better days – in the borough council’s capital budget for 2012/13, the element of a local authority’s budget that is funded by borrowing.
However, the council’s Community Scrutiny Committee will now be receiving a report on the future of the aviary and, as part of this process, local people are being asked for their views. The renovation scheme will remain in the capital programme pending any recommendations that may be made in the report.
