Petrol station’s bid to sell alcohol

Fillybrooks Service Station in Newcastle Road wants to sell alcohol between 6am and midnight.

Owner Motor Fuel Ltd of London has submitted a new application for a premises licence to Stafford Borough Council which, if granted, would enable the petrol station to sell alcohol.

The original application from Motor Fuel Ltd was to sell alcohol 24 hours a day. An objection to this original application was received from Staffordshire Police, who argued that the potential 24-hour sale of alcohol could undermine the licensing objective relating to crime and disorder.

Following discussions with the applicant, the operating hours relating to alcohol were reduced to 6am-midnight and the police withdrew their objection.

Sixteen letters of objection from local people, however, have been sent to the council. The principle reasons relate to concerns about crime and disorder, public nuisance and public safety. In the objectors’ opinion the application does not meet the licensing objectives for crime and disorder, public nuisance and public safety.

Members of Stafford Borough Council’s licensing sub-committee will make a decision on the application on Friday 12th November. Click here to read the report to the licensing committee.
