These slideshows of photographs taken in Stone from 2005 to 2007 show just how much things have changed in the town in less than a decade.
They were all taken by Gary Sharman, who says: “It’s amazing that after what is just a relatively short period of time there have been so many changes. Shops have changed, car parks have become housing developments, pubs such as the Bonnie Gem and The Vine have vanished, all within the last 10 years.
“I trod the streets of Stone on numerous Sundays between 2005 and 2007 taking photos of very mundane things, knowing that eventually they would become interesting.
There are a few older photos in there too, including of the bypass being built in the early 1990s. And a photo of what looks like the inside of a factory unit was taken at the time the Co-op store had taken over from Somerfield and had gutted the building.
Gary shared a wonderful video with us back in 2012 of a drive round Stone in 1991. It’s well worth a watch and you can see it HERE
