Stone Festival soapbox

Over half of the places have been filled for the Stone Festival Soapbox Derby that’s being held in the High Street on 8th June as part of this year’s summer festival.

If you want to guarantee your place in this wonderful, fun-filled event, send an email to the organiser, Grahame Neagus, at grahame@octavarium.co.uk for more details. The remaining places are sure to fill up well before the big night, so act quickly if you want to take part

There are 27 events across the Festival week – a mix of old favourites and some great new additions like the Soap Box Derby, which looks like a fabulous new summer event for the town.

The Soapbox Derby takes place on Wednesday 8th June from 7pm and it looks like it’s going to be a fantastic night in the town centre!

Forty soap boxes will be hurtling down the High Street, going down a ramp to start, over a jump and through a chicane in a thrill-a-minute timed challenge. There are four categories, and each homemade soap box must carry three people:

  • 150+ (a mixed team whose combined ages must be over 150!)

There will be prizes for the winners of each category, but it may not be the fastest soap boxes that claim the trophies. As part of the event, judges will be scoring each soap box for originality and all-round wackiness! Those scores – alongside the times – will determine the winners.
