Plans submitted for business park access

The planned new roundabout for the A34 is part of the £6 million plan for access to Meaford Business Park

A planning application for access and road works for the planned Meaford Business Park – including a new A34 roundabout – has been submitted.

The £6m scheme to improve access to the St. Modwen Meaford Business Park development was announced as part of an £80 million package of Growth Deal investment for Staffordshire and its Stoke-on-Trent neighbours in the summer.

Staffordshire County Council say this first project will support the transformation of the largest undeveloped brownfield site in the county into a business park and will help create around 2,500 new jobs.

St. Modwen is to transform the Meaford Major Employment Site, for which planning permission for development is in place, and the highways investment will see access improved by the construction of a new roundabout on the A34, improvement of Meaford Road and a second junction to serve the park.

Philip Atkins, Leader of Staffordshire County Council, said: “The Growth Deal will not only help boost our economy further but will help deliver better jobs and prospects for local people across the county. Thanks to the hard work of our highways teams, working together with St. Modwen, we are in a position to get off to a flying start and it is great to see the application for Meaford now being put forward.”

The county council carried out a public consultation on the proposals for Meaford early this year and together with St Modwen have now submitted a formal planning application. You can find out more details about the proposals for the construction of the new access and have your say HERE

Euan Lindsay, Senior Development Manager at St. Modwen, said: “The provision of improved access to the Meaford Business Park is key for this development and the scheme agreed with the county council will enable the site’s development to be brought forward in earnest. In parallel with the county council works, St. Modwen is to undertake on-site preparation and infrastructure works in order to make the site ready for development.”

Ian Parry, local county councillor for the area, said: “This is the largest undeveloped brownfield site in the county and as a council we are committed to supporting plans to regenerate sites such as this. Once approved, this scheme will support jobs, ease congestion, improve road safety and help establish the A34 as a further corridor for growth in Staffordshire.”

Separate from the plans for Meaford Business Park are plans from Meaford Energy Ltd for a new power station on the site of the former Meaford power station. More on that HERE
