About the new development, Tarpey Woodfine Architects said in the heritage statement that supports the application:

“Proposed development

In the short term the applicant proposes to continue the class E use with retail, café and small dance classes.

The application is to expand the permitted use to include sui generis Dance Hall and Licensed Bar uses, whilst retaining class E uses – Dance Classes, Retail and Café. The application also seeks approval for proposed amendments to the shop front.

The proposed expansion of uses will make the business more flexible and robust and will help to provide a mix of attractions for Stone Town Centre.

Dance classes and events would be carried out in both the day and the evening – providing a positive contribution to the town centre vibrancy and regeneration.

The proposed alterations to the shop front are intended to be a modern version of high-quality original shop fronts. It is proposed that the C20 sign, shop front and brick stall riser are replaced with a new sign and timber shop front with stall riser.

The proposed new awning will reflect the style of the original Louis Dutton building “
