Stockingford 2 – Stone Dominoes Ladies 2
West Midland Regional Women’s League Division One North
Two goals from Hannah Perry saw an injury-hit Stone Dominoes Ladies FC take a point in Nuneaton.
After last week’s Women’s FA Cup penalty shoot-out victory, it was back to league action and Stone were hoping to build on a 5-1 victory in their first game of the campaign.
After a strong Stockingford start, Stone settled down and started to pressure the Stockingford defence, which was looking nervous, and went 1-0 up from a Kerry McCourt corner. The ball was cleared to the feet of McCourt who fired the ball low, and Hannah Perry was on hand to tap the ball into the back of the net.
The second half saw a much more attacking Stockingford and they were soon level, but up popped Hannah Perry again to put Stone back into the lead with a lovely long-range effort into the top corner of the net.
In an end-to-end game, Stockingford were soon back on top and grabbed a deserved equaliser. Stone really had to dig in for the last five minutes, but both teams had their chances to clinch the winner. It didn’t come and it was a point apiece.
Player of the match was Stone centre-half Becky Arnold who made some quality challenges and had another brilliant game in defence.
