The theft happened on Brookside Lane at about 1.20am on Friday 10 April 2026. Police say two unknown people were seen on CCTV pushing a motorcycle away from the area towards Manor Rise. The motorbike was a blue Yamaha XJ 600.

Officers are now asking anyone who was nearby at the time, or who may have seen anything suspicious, to get in touch.

Appeal for information in two overnight incidents

Police have also linked their appeal to a separate incident reported the same night, after a motorcycle was found burnt out on the towpath near Rookery Lane Bridge.

They have stressed that this second incident is not connected to the stolen motorcycle from Brookside Lane.

Even so, officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have information about either event, particularly anyone who was in the Brookside Lane, Manor Rise or Rookery Lane Bridge areas during the night.

That includes people with CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage which may have captured movement on nearby streets or along the canal towpath.

What police are asking

Staffordshire Police want to hear from anyone who:

  • was on or near the towpath by Rookery Lane Bridge that night,
  • has camera footage from the area,
  • or has heard anything locally that could help enquiries.
  • Police say even small details could make a difference.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101 or through the force website, quoting incident reference 0208 of Friday 10 April 2026.

People can also reply directly to the original police message, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Crime prevention advice for motorcycle owners

As part of the appeal, police have also shared advice aimed at helping riders reduce the risk of theft.

Owners are being urged to use strong chains and padlocks, ideally securing bikes to a fixed object, and to fit disc locks, alarms or immobilisers where possible.

Parking in busy, well-lit places can also help, while at home police advise using a garage or another secure area where available.

They also recommend covering motorcycles when left outside, and fitting a tracking device to help with recovery if a bike is stolen.

Anyone in Stone who has footage from Brookside Lane, Manor Rise, Rookery Lane Bridge or nearby routes in the early hours of Friday 10 April is being asked to check it.

It’s ashame this is happening I’ve had my bike very nearly stolen around 2am a month ago but the alarm went off from my disk lock and I was able to retrieve it (they dropped my bike breaking the wing mirror)
