Police and road safety teams carried out a targeted operation at the A34 and Yarnfield Lane junction on Monday 2 February following ongoing concerns from residents.

The operation was led by Staffordshire Police’s Road Crime Team, alongside the Road Harm Team and the Safer Road Partnership. It was launched in response to repeated community feedback about safety at the junction, as well as collision data held by the county’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.

Officers were visible at the junction throughout the morning, stopping vehicles, carrying out checks, and speaking directly with drivers and members of the public.

As part of the operation, the junction was temporarily reconfigured. Police say this followed a number of suggestions put forward by local residents, aimed at improving traffic flow and reducing the risk of collisions.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said the changes were introduced to assess how different layouts might affect safety and driver behaviour.

The nearby Wayfarer pub provided practical support by allowing police to use its car park as a base during the operation, something officers publicly thanked the management for.

Concerns around the junction have been raised on several occasions, particularly about vehicle speeds, turning movements, and how safely traffic merges during busy periods. Police say community input played a key role in shaping Monday’s response.

In a statement, the Road Crime Team said the wider aim of the work is to reduce fatal and serious injury collisions across Staffordshire’s road network.

“Our vision is to reduce fatal and serious injury collisions on our roads, making them a safer place for all and helping ensure everyone gets to their destination safe and well,” the statement said.
