Residents have raised concerns about drones being flown over private properties and at low height near gardens. Officers say they are aware of the reports and are reminding people of the rules that apply when flying drones in residential areas.

Staffordshire Police say that while drones are legal to own and use, operators must follow the Drone and Model Aircraft Code.

Key points include not flying over crowds, keeping below the maximum height of 120 metres, around 400 feet, and avoiding restricted airspace. Drones must not be used to carry or drop objects, and must always be kept within the operator’s direct line of sight.

Police have also stressed the need to respect people’s privacy. Flying over homes or gardens, particularly repeatedly or at close range, can cause concern and may breach expectations around privacy.

Drone users are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the full code before flying, especially in built-up areas like Udall Grange.
