Poptastic 80s fundraiser at Stone Cricket Club

It was ra-ra skirts and dayglo disco gear in abundance on Saturday, as Stone Cricket Club hosted a nostalgic, poptastic ‘80s night.

The event, organised by lovely bubbly Sharon Turner, including nibbles and a retro quiz for aficionados, compered by Chris Bell, was held to raise funds for a rehab chair for the stroke unit at the University Hospital of North Staffs, and we’re ecstatic to report that the £500 target was exceeded by quite a considerable margin!

Whether you lived through the memorable decade or not, the dj ensured there was music to suit all tastes – mod (the Jam), ska (Madness), synth pop (Human League), and a generous helping of cheese (Rick Astley!), which got everyone on the dance floor throwing some shapes in no time.

Plenty of impressive elaborate costumes on display, the party-goers really entered into the spirit of things (no doubt helped by the array of colourful and weirdly named cocktails on offer at the bar!) The Ghostbusters, Alice Cooper (did anyone escape the black lippy!), Robert Smith from the Cure and several Madonna clones were strutting their stuff!
