Public meeting on controversial A34 decision – Friday 13th March

A public meeting is being held on Friday 13th March on Staffordshire County Council’s decision to close the gap on the A34 by Whitemill Lane.

The meeting will be held at Walton Community Centre, starting at 7pm and should last about an hour.

The council says the decision has been taken because of the number of accidents there, all involving vehicles turning right out of, or into, Whitemill Lane.

In the five years from 1st January 2009 to 31st December 2013, the county says there were 10 personal injury accidents – with two classed as serious. A letter from council engineer Guy Pryer to people living on Whitemill Lane and nearby, states:

Whitemill Lane

Stone town councillors debated the issue in February, with concerns raised about the extra traffic that could hit Eccleshall Road/Manor Rise and the air ministry estate as a result of the A34 gap closure.

Lots of people took to the Little Bit of Stone Facebook page to discuss the decision, the majority criticising it and saying it will lead to a huge amount of extra traffic going through the flat-roof estate in Walton and out on to an already busy Eccleshall Road.
