As school children across Stone settle back in after the summer break, Pirehill First School shared an update about their pupils’ return.
Every September, it’s such an exciting and very special occasion when we welcome our new Reception children as they embark on their first steps into school life at Pirehill.
We are so proud of how quickly the children have settled into school; it feels as though they have always been with us! To watch them confidently running through the gate each morning with big smiles on their faces is a real privilege. There has been a lovely atmosphere in school as everyone has been very busy learning new routines, spending time getting to know each other and making new friends. Our children are happy and settled and already wowing us with their learning!
After the long summer break, September can be a tricky time for some children; adapting back into the school routine, settling into a new year group, a new classroom and building relationships with new teachers. Our successful transition mornings that we had back in June, certainly helped to ensure that our children approach the new academic year with confidence and resilience. They seem to have taken it all in their stride!
This year at Pirehill, we have successfully strengthened the transition from Reception to Year 1 by ensuring everything our children learned, experienced, developed and embedded in their first year at Pirehill is built upon in Year 1. Our spacious Year 1 classrooms look fabulous as staff have created an enabling environment where continuous provision is carefully planned and aligned to the demands of the National Curriculum. This will ensure our Year 1 staff have the ability to harness the power of play, practical learning and hands on exploration! Our first weeks of learning are, as always, about ensuring we build strong relationships in classrooms between pupils and teachers and also spend time focussing on our school rules; Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Safe.
