Christ Church is getting into the Stone Puppet Festival spirit with a special service on Sunday morning.
The town’s first puppet festival takes place on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August, with a huge range of shows, exhibitions, workshops and more in the High Street and in the Crown Hotel.
The festival has certainly caught the imagination of Christ Church vicar Paul Kingman, who is holding a special puppet festival-inspired service on Sunday at 9.15am, with the theme of ‘Lost and Found’. Everyone is invited to join in – and to take along their own puppet to swell the congregation!

Paul said: “When I first heard about the festival, it really caught my interest as a good community event, so I decided to get in touch with the organiser, David Leech, to find out more. Churches have used puppets for many years. Their larger-than-life characters and visual appeal fascinate both the young and old. We have a message of good news to celebrate and share: the puppets will help us to do this.
“The service finishes in time for a quick brew before attending Sunday’s festival events get under way. We welcome visitors and regulars for this special service and I’m also pleased that the Deputy Mayor Lynne Bakker-Collier and her consort Tony Dodd will be with us.”
