May is National Walking Month and people in Stone are being encouraged to get out on foot and enjoy the many health and community benefits of walking.
Walking is a simple way to stay active, reduce stress and enjoy our local surroundings. It can also help improve air quality and ease congestion around town. Whether it’s the school run, popping to the shops or just getting some fresh air, swapping short car journeys for walking can make a real difference.
Staffordshire County Council is encouraging residents across the county to take part in their “Walk This May” campaign and is inviting schools to get involved too with a new Walking Warriors initiative.
Ryan Procter from the council’s Active Travel team said
“Whether it’s walking to school, taking the dog out, or swapping a boardroom for a walking meeting, every step counts.
“We’re excited to be supporting National Walking Month and launching our brand-new Walking Warriors campaign. Walking is free, easy, and brings so many benefits to our health and wellbeing as well as helping reduce congestion and improving air quality in our communities.”
In Stone, there are plenty of lovely spots to stretch your legs. From a stroll through Westbridge Park to a peaceful walk along the canal towpath, we’re fortunate to have a variety of green spaces and walking routes right on our doorstep.
People are being invited to:
- Walk to school or work where possible
- Choose walking over short car journeys
- Take a stroll to your local park, library or café
- Try a walking meeting or a lunchtime wander
- Enjoy a weekend walk with the family or the dog
Schools taking part in the campaign will be supported with resources from the council’s Active School Travel Team. More details can be found on the Walk This May campaign webpage.
