Congratulations to St Dominic’s Priory School sports teacher Barbara Capper, who won a gold medal for Team GB at the racketlon European Championships.
Racketlon is a combination sport where competitors play a sequence of the four most popular racket sports – table tennis, badminton, squash and tennis. Barbara competed in the team and individual events and dominated the Ladies Senior competition, winning the gold medal – without participating in her strongest discipline, tennis, in any of the rounds.
In the team event, the UK team met Sweden in the final, which meant Barbara was scheduled to play Lillian Druve, a previous opponent who Barbara beat in the World Championship Final in 2013. Barbara was able to secure a one-point advantage in a hard-fought competitive match for the ladies. However, the Swedish men proved to be extremely strong opponents for their British counterparts and won by 12 points, which resulted in the UK team claiming the Silver Medal award in the team event.
