Reader’s Letter: A grateful tribute to Price and Stubbs compassionate service

Letters to the EditorEmma Matthews highlights ‘Price and Stubbs’ exceptional support and personal care in organising her father’s funeral from afar, underscoring their professionalism and empathy during a challenging time.

Having never been in the situation of needing to organise a funeral before, I felt totally lost and overwhelmed. I lived locally years ago, but now live 400 miles away in Scotland and had no idea about the reputations of Funeral Directors in the area. I pretty much had no idea where to start.

I received a recommendation to use ‘Price and Stubbs’ Funeral Directors from a family member who had used their services several times over the years. I am so grateful for this recommendation, and I hope to share why.

From my very first appointment with ‘Price and Stubbs’ I was met with a high level of professionalism and knowledgeability. They created a most welcome safety net of help and friendly support for what needed to be arranged. I felt a sense of relief at this devastating time and was confident that all of my Father’s funeral needs (as well as my own) would be met.

My main point of contact was through Anthony. He is a wonderful member of staff, and his calm and caring manner was perfect for how fragile I was feeling. He made me feel listened to and that Dad’s funeral was important and of relevance. This was not just ‘another’ funeral, this was a special occasion which needed the proper consideration and time it deserved. I also found it of comfort that he was not only there during the arrangement stage in the office, but that he was there to walk with Dad at the funeral and accompany him to his final resting place.

The other members of staff at ‘Price and Stubbs’, in their entirety, were au fait with all of the plans and arrangements for Dad’s funeral and formed an effective and cohesive team. Small but poignant attentions to detail were thought of and suggested, such as a Union Flag which was offered for use during the funeral in honour of my Father’s military service.

The team makes you feel like they are there to offer the service that is best for YOU. There is no pushy ‘upselling’ or persuasion to spend more. They listened and offered advice, making suggestions based on individual needs. At all stages of the planning, the options were presented for me to make a choice based on what I felt was best for what I needed and wanted.

As aforementioned, I live in Scotland, meaning I had limited time in Stone. Anthony and the team went above – and-beyond for me and worked out of hours over a weekend to ensure that arrangements could be made for me to visit Dad in the chapel of rest before my journey home. For this I shall be ever grateful.

Communication was excellent. There was always someone to answer the phone when I called, and I was kept up-to-date with every development via telephone or email. Things like the Order of Service were sent to be proofread, and where I requested small changes, these were actioned within a couple of hours with a revised copy sent for approval.

So, in all honesty, I can not fault ‘Price and Stubbs’ and can not recommend using them enough to anyone in the position that I was in. They really are what I would call a ‘good old fashioned’ service with personal care that is so rare and difficult to find nowadays.

Finally, I must commend Antony upon his most personal manner and guidance and to offer a huge thankyou to all at ‘Price and Stubbs’. You made such an overwhelming time feel more manageable and, most of all, helped me to give Dad a fitting, loving and memorable final ‘farewell’.
