Stafford Borough Council has been reviewing waste and recycling services and is removing the recycling facilities at Morrisons and Crown Street Car Park in Stone.
Originally discussed in November 2019, the plans identify 21 sites across the borough that were set up at a time before the majority of households were served by regular kerbside recycling.
The current facilities cost the council circa £40k pa to operate after the income and expenses have been settled:
Thanks to Leah, on Facebook, who initially highlighted the stickers that have now appeared on the bins at the Stone facilities.
A council spokesperson has confirmed that the facilities will be removed before the end of March 2020, with a period of follow up to clear up any resultant fly-tipping.
Over the next 18 months, additional changes will be happening to the waste and recycling services including the introduction of a blue bag for paper and cardboard and consideration for charging for the brown bin (garden waste).
