Referendum campaign hits Stone

A West Midlands MEP who started a new political party to force a referendum on the UK’s membership of the EU will be sending her battle bus to Stone on Wednesday (24th July).

MEP Nikki Sinclaire – who quit UKIP to serve as an independent in 2010 – formed the We Demand A Referendum Party in June last year. The single-issue party aims to contest all British constituencies in the 2014 European Parliament elections to force a referendum on British membership of the European Union.

She has already delivered a 220,000-signature petition to Downing Street on the issue. Her team will be in Market Square from 10am to 4pm.

She said: “The EU takes almost £50 million a day of our money for the privilege of belonging – money better spent in this country, where we need it most. When will the political elite realise that Britain cannot afford to remain in this Parliament? David Cameron won’t let the people decide on this issue. It is time that we demand a referendum on this crucial issue.”
