Residents raise issues around local policing in the town at drop-in event

UK PoliceChief Inspector Giles Parsons, and a number of his colleagues, held a drop-in session on Stone High Street this week; here are the issues that were brought up and what’s being done to tackle them.

Having done a number of evening sessions, the decision this time was for the local policing team to be available for residents mid-afternoon to listen to their concerns and share feedback.

We spoke to CI Parsons after the event to hear his feedback on what concerns residents were bringing and what was being done to address them.

CI Parsons told A Little Bit of Stone:

“We had a really useful event; during the course of the session, we had 6 separate visitors. It was good to hear their views and concerns regarding Policing issues in Stone.

The areas raised were:

  • Violence in the Town Centre on Friday / Saturday nights.
  • Litter / bottles being left in the High Street
  • Concerns regarding drugs and their use in Stone
  • Concerns regarding anti–social behaviour
  • Issues with neighbours

Feedback from these events is invaluable to the local policing team. It’s good to hear directly from the local community regarding what they believe the priority issues are.”

CI Parsons went on to provide the following responses to the raised issues:

“As a local policing team, we do run Safer Nights operation in Stone on Friday and Saturday nights to reassure the community and try to prevent issues.

We are doing a lot of work locally to target drugs and deal with anti-social behaviour.

I appreciate the support of the local community; the more information and intelligence they can give us to help us target local issues, the more positive action we will be able to take.”

On feedback around the timing of the afternoon event, CI Parsons clarified:

“I did see some feedback about this being an afternoon event, I have held previous evening events in Stone High Street as well as online events.

I do try and offer a range of times / opportunities for people to engage to with us and more events will be held soon.

In the meantime, people can give us information using online reporting, social media messaging or via Crime stoppers. I would also encourage people to sign up for Smart alert, which enables people to be kept informed about local issues in the area where they live.
