As a mother of a musical obsessed teen, it’s not often I sit through a show without even a whiff of a song & dance, and as we headed to watch The Mousetrap, I couldn’t help but wonder if it would keep our attention.
But my fears were completely blown away the second the lights went down to almost pitch black and we looked at each other with wide eyes before the stage lights came on and all eyes became fixated.
Far from the musicals we were used to, with casts and ensembles and backing singers, and orchestras, seven characters held the stage as they weaved through the whodunnit story line and kept us guessing right to the last.

The scene was set, a 1950’s newly opened guesthouse, with Giles & Mollie Ralston the inexperienced hosts. As their guests arrive, news reaches of a gruesome death in London. The mystery deepens when the police rings to say a sergeant is on his way to the house, despite a snowstorm making the roads un-passable.
As requested by the killer during the curtain call, we won’t reveal whodunnit, but safe to say we were both wrong in our predictions!
It’s easy to see why Mousetrap is the longest running show in the world on the West End. A thoroughly entertaining evening, even without any song & dance!
