Review: Cavalli Stone – a celebration of Indian dining

Cavalli Stone - Jon Cook

On Thursday, the 24th of October, we headed into town to check out Cavalli, a new Indian restaurant hoping to raise the bar of Indian dining in Stone.

We’ve previously shared information about the extensive refit that the owners of the former Mojos have undergone, and we were delighted that the new owners invited us to the opening night of the new restaurant.

Firstly, let me say that the restaurant has undergone a massive transformation. The stair treads, hand rails, and upstairs balustrades look like the only internal features retained – everything else has been replaced or refreshed.

Cavalli Menus

We snapped the extensive menu so you can see what’s on offer and the prices:

The Cavalli Experience

We’ve been to a number of restaurant launches, and one of the key observations was that the staff weren’t fresh and new to hospitality. All of the staff were friendly, courteous and attentive – without being over the top.

Split over two floors, Cavalli caters for everyone, from intimate couples to friends and family groups. We were sat on the first floor, overlooking the lower floor, and it gave a great perspective on the work that the team had undertook to renovate and re-open the restaurant.

Starters:

We opted for the Cavalli Tandoori Mixed Platter for two. When this was served, it was nice to receive the food split on an individual plate for each of us.

Mains:

I’ll hold up my hands and say that I’m an unadventurous Indian food eater; my go-to is Chicken Jalfrezi. I was determined to try something new, so after a conversation with the excellent waiting staff, I opted for the Lasani Murgh Bahar, whilst Mrs ALBOS had Kadhi Lamb.

We complemented our mains with the meat samosas, mushroom pilau rice and garlic naan.

The verdict:

We both absolutely loved the vibe of the restaurant, the decor and had high praise for the staff and chefs. Opening night comes with its own set of pressures, but the team handled it well and the food was fantastic.

It’s certainly somewhere we will return to!
