Road closed for blocked sewer repairs

Severn Trent on site at Oulton Road

Oulton Road will be closed near the old Vine pub site for the next seven to 10 days as Severn Trent works to repair a sewage pipe that got blocked with concrete.

People living in Oulton Road and Oulton Mews have had sewage running down the roads near their houses on and off since Friday (3rd May). Severn Trent has installed a temporary pump to stop the leaks and closed Oulton Road on Saturday. Residents living nearby received letters on Wednesday morning informing them of the works.

Diversions are in place, leading to extra traffic in some of the surrounding streets – especially at rush hour – so take extra care.

Donna Shufflebotham from Oulton Mews said: “It’s been horrible this last few days. It’s been gushing down our road a good few times and left tissue paper and all sorts. Really horrible smell, too, especially with the hot weather. Severn Trent have washed the roads down a few times but there was still sewage on the roads on Tuesday morning. I worry about people’s health to be honest, especially with hundreds of schoolchildren using Oulton Road to walk to Alleyne’s High School.”
