Staffordshire County Council will begin 10 months of work this month on the A34 / Redhill Business Park junction, including lane and overnight one-way closures.
The junction on the A34 at Redhill currently provides access on its western side to the Staffordshire County Council developed Redhill Business Park. The new road will come off the eastern side, providing access to the Marston Grange housing development. This will eventually become a spine road through the development and link the A34 Stone road with the B5066 Sandon Road.
The construction work is scheduled to start on Monday 15th February with the scheme scheduled to take 42 weeks to complete. The county council’s highways team is managing the work which is fully funded by the housing developers.
The junction scheme includes widening the A34 to create a dedicated left-turn lane southbound and a right-turn lane within the former central reservation for northbound traffic. The existing southbound pavement will be widened to create a shared footway and cycleway. The county council have confirmed that the southbound section will have the speed limit reduced on the junction approach.
During the scheme period, traffic management will need to be put in place to ensure safety. This will include lane closures and some overnight closures on one direction at any time. These closures will be coordinated with any planned M6 closures that are happening as part of the smart motorway scheme.
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport David Williams said:
“The upgrade to this junction on the A34 is necessary to provide access to the Marston Grange development and is being funded by the developers.
“This is a busy road and throughout the works period it will remain open, though with traffic management in place throughout. Our project team is ensuring any one-way closures do not clash with M6 night-time closures. While some delays will be inevitable, particularly as more traffic begins to return to the roads, we will of course make every effort to keep disruption to a minimum.
“A significant amount of development will be taking place in several parts of Stafford in the coming years and so appropriate infrastructure needs to be in place. The project team will be keeping the local community and businesses informed throughout.”
