Stone musician Rich Leese is giving his festive track another push this December, one year after Rock n Roll Reindeer picked up airplay on BBC Radio Stoke’s breakfast show and Moorlands Radio.

Rich and his long time collaborator Steve Bown from Stoke, recorded the song in a bedroom studio last winter, turning a playful idea into a lively Christmas rock track.
A tune built in half an hour
Rich and Steve have been making music together for years, ever since meeting through a local band. When that band came to an end, the friendship continued and so did the songwriting. Rock n Roll Reindeer came together fast. Steve played every instrument, Rich added vocals and the two imagined Santa’s reindeer powering around the world on Christmas Eve with guitars roaring beneath them.
“We just thought it would be funny if all the reindeer were into rock music and listened to it to get them around the world,” Rich said last year, when the track first made its way online.
Looking for more airplay this December
One unexpected highlight came when BBC Radio Stoke gave the track a play on their breakfast show, followed shortly afterwards by Moorlands Radio. The pair were delighted, especially given how quickly the track had been put together.
Rich told us he is hoping the song might earn another spin this year.
“I think it’s time a new Christmas song had a chance. We have all listened to the same ones for years and years. Maybe ours will be one of them one day.”
Where to hear it
Rock n Roll Reindeer is available on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube under the title Rock n Roll Reindeer by Rich Leese featuring Steve Bown.
With the new festive season underway, the duo are simply enjoying seeing where the track might travel next and whether it will make a return to the airwaves.
