Stone’s Rich Leese has partnered with his musical collaborator Steve Bown from Stoke to spread festive cheer with their original Christmas song, Rock N’ Roll Reindeer.
The Story Behind Rock N’ Roll Reindeer
Rich, a lifelong resident of Stone, and Steve first met six years ago while playing in a band. When their initial band didn’t pan out, they continued making music for enjoyment. Last year, the duo decided to channel their creativity into creating a unique Christmas song. The result was a playful rock anthem that envisions Santa’s reindeer powering his sleigh with heavy riffs and rock spirit.
“We just thought it would be funny if all the reindeer were into rock music and listened to it to get them around the world,” said Rich. The song was crafted in just 30 minutes in a bedroom studio, with Steve handling all the instruments—including a standout guitar solo—while both musicians contributed vocals.
Releasing the song just before Christmas Eve last year, the duo received positive feedback from family and friends, and this year, they are determined to give it a more substantial push.
Making Waves This Christmas
Rich and Steve have submitted Rock N’ Roll Reindeer to BBC Introducing, Hits Radio, and several other stations in hopes of securing a spot on their Christmas playlists. The song is also now available on all major platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube.
Richard shared his aspirations for the song: “I think it’s time a new song was introduced with all the old ones being the same for years and years. Maybe ours will be one of them in years to come.”
