Runners ready for St Michael’s 10k

This year’s St Michael’s 10k road race and fun run takes place on Sunday 26th June – but you’d better get your stakes on if you want to enter!

The 10k race starts at 10am on Lichfield Road, right by St Michael’s First School on Weavers Lane. The route is fully marshalled and coned-off and is a two-lap course along the A51 and A34.

The event is not just for serious runners, though. The school summer fayre takes place on the same day and there’s a fun run for children.

The 10k road race was ran between 1986 and 1995 before it was decided to stop the event. It was revived in 2005 after Stone Master Marathoner Chris Barlow approached St Michael’s headteacher Mary Gale.

Chris, the race director, said: “2005 saw the re-launch of the race which once again featured many local and international runners. Last year’s 500 runners helped us raise over £3000 for the school’s PTA and the Guides and in the previous three races we have reached our maximum entry of 500 well before race day.

“The race has grown from strength to strength, now becoming a family event which includes a children’s fun run, a 5K fun run and the school fayre, making it a great day out for the whole family. The Stone St Michael’s 10K is now firmly established as one of the area’s top races.”

There’s lots more information – and entry forms – at the official website.
