Russell wants to share the torch magic

Russell with the Olympic torch in Crewe

One of Stone’s Olympic torchbearers will be visiting schools and community groups to show off the torch to local people in the build-up to London 2o12 – and he’s urged you to get in touch if you’d like to arrange a visit.

Russell Cox carried the torch through Crewe town centre on 31st May. He competes in half-marathons, iron men events and triathlons to raise awareness and funds for the Everyman Charity.

He has urged schools and community groups and clubs to get in touch if they’d like a visit from the Olympic torch! Email torch@alittlebitofstone.com and we’ll pass your details to Russell.

He said: “I want to share the Olympic torch with the people of Stone and make sure that they enjoy it and experience it. It was such an unbelievable privilege to carry the torch and to see thousands of people so excited by the spirit of the Olympic Games. I don’t see the torch as something to keep to myself. People say to me, ‘But aren’t you worried that it will get knocked or damaged?’ I don’t really care about that to be honest. I’ll put it into a special frame when the Olympics are finished and I really won’t mind if it’s got a few knocks or peanut butter fingermarks! It will all be part of the story of my torch.”

Email torch@alittlebitofstone.com if you’d like Russell to visit your school or community group and we’ll pass your details on.

Here’s a lovely video of Russell carrying the Olympic torch through Crewe…

A great sporting gesture! Our school, Tittensor First, was very lucky to take part in the parade through Stafford as the torch arrived. I’m sure the children and staff would be thrilled if you could fit us in for a visit. Please contact me, Amanda Wheat (school H&S governor) at amandaault47@yahoo.co.uk. Many thanks and congratulations on being a proud British torch bearer!!!
