Severn Trent Water’s £1.2 million flood prevention and sewer improvement investment in Stone is due to get under way in mid-June.
They say the works will make sure the sewers can cope with rain water, which will prevent further sewer flooding.
The work will start on 20th June on Station Road where engineers will work closely with National Grid to divert the water and gas mains in order to carry out the work. On 20th July Station Road will close for seven weeks between the junctions of Dominic Street and Northesk Street. Alma Street up to Northesk Street will also be affected during this time.
Once the work on Station Road has finished, the road closure in Mount Avenue will start from the 7th September and is expected to last eight weeks. During this time, work will also be carried out on Mount Road, when temporary traffic lights will be used to make sure the road is kept open.
A drop-in session is taking place at Christ Church Centre on Thursday 4th June between 4pm and 7pm, where you can meet the Severn Trent Water and Amey teams and hear more about the project.
The sewer pipes aren’t working as well as we’d like in the area,” said Ben Gannon, programme engineer at Severn Trent, “and when it rains heavily the sewer system struggles to cope so we need to carry out this essential work. We’re really sorry for the inconvenience this work may cause and we hope that by holding a drop-in session local residents can gain a better understanding of the work we’re doing and how it’s going to benefit Stone in the future.
“We’d really like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we carry out this work. We won’t be there for long and this essential work will make sure we can continue to provide reliable water and sewer services to customers in Stone for years to come.”
