Stone Town Charity Bonfire and Firework Committee say they were informed recently by Stafford Borough Council that permission to use Westbridge Park for this year’s Fireworks and Bonfire display would only be granted subject to a condition that the two new football pitches be fenced off to the public.

A statement issued by the committee said: “Such a condition would have necessitated the event being cancelled in view of the fact that the new pitches reduce the area available by over a third of an acre compared to the area used by us in previous years.

“However, as a direct result of town councillor Geoff Collier’s intervention, a site meeting took place  following which Stafford Borough Council has now confirmed that we can now use one of the pitches for spectators. This effectively allows us to use the same space as in previous years.

“We are happy to confirm that this year’s event will take place on Saturday 2nd November. We wish to express our thanks to Cllr Collier for his assistance and to Stafford Borough Council for addressing our concerns.”

The issue was also raised at Stone Town Council’s General Purposes Committee by Cllr Mike Williamson on 12th September.
