There has been much speculation recently over the uncertain future of Stone, Barlaston and Stafford’s Signpost centres, and feelings have understandably been running very high.
With a shortage of funding, due to council budget cuts, it looked as though their days were numbered. Fortunately, following successful protests against the closure of the centres, supporters are celebrating the news they will continue to provide a vital service for their communities.
The centres are an invaluable source of help to the general public, able to offer all manner of services, ranging from computers to assist with job hunting, the tiresome and often bewildering task of form filling, advice on entitlement to, and claiming benefits, as well as providing details of various support groups such as Adsis (drugs and alcohol support), Mid Staffs Mind (mental health issues), and Rural Homes. Pickering and Butters solicitors services can also be accessed, and the centres are also able to provide details of local mum and toddler groups.
Stone’s Signpost Centre is located in the Frank Jordan Centre on Lichfield Street, and is open every weekday morning except Thursdays. More info available here –
