Two sisters from Stone are taking on a fundraising challenge to help bring a defibrillator to their Scout hut, with a home bake sale planned later this month.

Aged 14 and 12, the sisters are members of the Barlaston and Tittensor Scout Group. As part of a wider challenge across the group, young people have been encouraged to raise money towards installing a defibrillator at the Scout hut, equipment that could prove vital in an emergency.
Older Scouts have been set a target of £100 each, with younger members in Cubs aiming to raise £50. For the two sisters, the importance of the cause made the decision an easy one.
Their bake sale will take place on Friday 20 February, starting at 10.30 am and continuing until everything is sold. It will be held outside their home on Lichfield Road, opposite Fairways Service Station.
A variety of homemade bakes and other sweet treats will be available, with all money raised going directly towards the defibrillator fund. The family hopes that anyone passing by, whether on foot or by car, might stop briefly to support the effort.
Defibrillators are designed to be used by members of the public and can significantly increase the chances of survival following a cardiac arrest. Having one based at the Scout hut would support those who use the building regularly and could also benefit the wider local area if needed.
Speaking about the challenge, the family said,
“Children were given the challenge to raise £100 each, or £50 for the younger members in Cubs, to raise money for a defibrillator, which is crucial to help save a life if there is ever an emergency.
We thought this is an absolute necessity, so challenge accepted.”
The bake sale forms part of a wider fundraising push by the Scout group, but organisers hope local residents will help the sisters reach their target by calling in on the day.
Anyone travelling along Lichfield Road on the morning of Friday 20 February is encouraged to keep an eye out!
