Residents have hit out at the size of a proposed warehouse at Meaford Business Park and say if approved it will be an eyesore.
Despite an amended planning application reducing the scale of the warehouse, the proposed building is still 11 metres tall and would occupy the grass and open land that borders on to Rookery Lane, which connects Meaford Road and Washdale Lane.
Meaford Business Park – which is currently being constructed – is expected to deliver over 2,000 jobs. The roadworks at Meaford and on the A34 are designed to ease the extra traffic that will be generated.
What’s certain is that the buildings that will be constructed will change the character and appearance of the area. And local resident Val Davis says the planned warehouse is just too big.

[box type=”shadow” ]She said: “The proposed building is an eyesore, it is incongruous in scale and appearance and will dominate views from the canalside, which is an important conservation area and home to wildlife, from Rookery Lane itself and from Meaford Road. This canalside area has important historic connections, the bridge over the canal is significant and there are a number of other listed buildings nearby. The landscaping that is being proposed is inadequate. This is the gateway to a popular rural amenity and is much used by Stone residents who walk, cycle and run in this area.”[/box]
