A dog rescue charity is set to visit 1st Oulton Group Scouts later this month, giving young members a chance to learn more about animal welfare and how charities support dogs in need.

On Friday 30 January, volunteers from Cocker and English Springer Spaniel Rescue, known as CAESSR, will be spending time with the group’s Squirrel and Beaver sections. The visit is planned as an informal, hands-on session, introducing children to the work involved in rescuing, caring for and rehoming spaniels from across the UK.
Leaders say the visit is intended to help younger scouts understand responsibility, kindness and the role charities play in supporting animals that have had a difficult start.
Alongside the visit, the group is helping CAESSR by collecting donations that can be put to immediate use by dogs in their care. The charity is particularly keen to receive practical items such as dog beds, blankets and towels, along with food, treats, collars and toys.
Unwanted Christmas gifts or suitable items for raffles and stall sales are also welcome. These help the charity raise funds to cover veterinary care, fostering costs and ongoing support for dogs before they are rehomed.
The visit will take place during the group’s usual meeting time, and donations can be brought along on the evening. Scout leaders say there is no obligation to give, but any contribution, large or small, will be appreciated by the charity.
CAESSR works with a network of volunteers and foster carers, relying heavily on public support to continue its work. For the scouts involved, the visit offers a chance to see that work up close and ask questions in a relaxed setting.
