A former England rugby international and county cricketer will be helping a Stone charity to raise vital funds at a sportspersons’ evening in May.
Former Radio Five Live commentator Alastair Hignell will be the VIP at a Sportspersons’ Evening at the Moat House Hotel, Acton Trussell, on Thursday 2nd May at 7pm.
Organised by the Staffordshire branch of Multiple Sclerosis-UK (MS-UK), which is based on the Whitebridge industrial estate in the town, the event will include a dinner followed by an auction of sporting memorabilia and other items hosted by Clive Hillier of Louis Taylor Fine Arts Auctioneers.
Alistair was diagnosed with MS in 1999 and is patron of MS-UK. He won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Helen Rollason Award in 2008 for his work in spreading awareness of MS. He was awarded a CBE in the 2009 Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Comedian Martin Gold will also be entertaining guests on the night.
Tickets for the evening are only £35 each, and further details are available from Peter Marenghi, Regional Fundraiser for the charity, who can be contacted on 07824-708897 or at peter@ms-uk.org. Tables seating up to 12 are available.
Peter said: “This promises to be a fantastic evening, and we hope to raise a lot of money for MS-UK. It’s a bonus that Higgy is heading the bill for us as he’s an amazing speaker with lots of sporting stories to tell!”
There are over 100,000 people diagnosed with MS in the UK, and currently there is no cure. MS-UK provides support, advice and information for anyone affected by MS. The charity operates an advisory service with access to MS Advisors, a Welfare Rights Advisor and a Counsellor, and the Staffordshire Branch meets every week on Whitebridge Estate in Stone.
