Prep children from St Dominic’s Priory School spent time at Stone Library recently, taking part in storytelling, browsing books and trying out the self-service checkout.

The visit gave pupils a chance to spend time in one of the town centre’s best used public spaces, with plenty of excitement around the shelves and the scanner alike!
Stories, books and a trip into town
Children from the school’s prep department visited the library in Stone for a session that mixed reading with a chance to explore the space for themselves.
One of the biggest highlights was a session with storyteller Charlotte, who had the children fully caught up in the story as she brought it to life.

The children also had the chance to explore the shelves and choose their own books to take home, adding to the sense of occasion. For younger readers, that moment of picking out a book for yourself can be a big one, and it sounds like this visit gave them plenty to enjoy.
There was excitement too when it came to using the self service scanner to check out their books, with lots of smiles and proud moments along the way.

St Dominic’s described the visit as a fantastic one for the prep children and thanked the library team for making it so engaging and welcoming.
It is easy to see why trips like this matter. A library visit is not just about borrowing a book and heading home again. For children, it can be the moment stories start to feel bigger, funnier and more real, especially when someone is there to bring them to life.
In a town like Stone, where the library remains such an important community space, it is also a reminder of the simple value of places like this.
For the children from St Dominic’s, the recent visit sounds to have been just that, a chance to listen, explore and head home with a story of their own.
