Pupils, parents and other volunteers brought tears to the eyes of St. Michael’s First School Teachers as they spent the weekend drawing, painting and decorating posters to thank them.
On what must have seen like a strange Monday morning, teachers and staff turned up to St. Michael’s school to be greeted by rows and rows of cards and posters that had sprung up since they left school on Friday night.
School Governer Steve Lewis came up with the idea whilst he and his family were in isolation. Steve set up a Facebook Group and wrote:
“As some of you know, my family and I are in isolation at the moment, so I’m trying to support the school best I can from afar.
I have come up with an idea after seeing many heart felt scenes on Facebook of kids singing, messages to teachers etc.
I thought that over the next two weeks on the run up to the last day of term ( if they are not open at Easter), our children could make thank you cards and pictures which could be attached to the school gates, or I will get something setup a string line at the front of school. We could do this taking social distancing into account in time slots, starting from the morning until end of school.
I believe this would be a paying tribute to the effort our teachers at St Micheal’s have put in so far and it’s only going to get harder! At the end of the day when they leave, they can read them.”
Steve set up the string as promised then over the course of the weekend the string was filled up more and more.
Looking at the social media posts this morning it would appear that the project hit the spot with the teachers being well and truly stunned by the posters and messages that everyone had left for them.
Here’s some of the pictures:
