Two local friends from Stafford will be carrying out the notorious Screwball Rally this month, to help raise money for the County Hospital Children’s Ward.
Alistair Proffitt and Ben Colley, both from Stafford, are hoping to raise over £500 by driving over 2,100 miles, across eight counties, in just five days!
The pair have bought a red Vauxhall Combo van of 2004 vintage, costing just £625. But in true Screwball Rally style, they’re well on their way of turning the ex-Welsh Royal Mail van (which has already covered over 94,000 miles!) into the famous POSTMAN PAT’S VAN!
As well as converting the van, both Alistair and Ben will be entering into full spirits of the Rally by dressing up as Jess the cat and Postman Pat too!
Alistair Proffitt commented,
“We have decided this year to raise money for the Children’s Ward at County Hospital. We hope to raise as much as we can to help them with the amazing work they do for the local children of Stafford and the surrounding areas.”
“Both Ben and I have children who have required the care of this ward and therefore we thought it would be fitting to try and give something back as a thank you for the excellent care they received.”
The Rally will take place between the 20-24th September, where the Stafford friends will drive to Dover to start their adventure before heading across the water to Calais, France and onwards to Koblenz, Germany. From there they will venture on to Prague, Czech Republic and then to their furthest point from home to Wroclaw in Poland.
The return leg takes them through Hannover, Germany and then back to Calais, France, before eventually returning to Stafford.
