Staffordshire higher eduction options for post A-Level students

Exam ResultsMany young people from Stone picked up their A-Level results today but what are the options for further education?

A Little Bit of Stone heard from County Councillor Philip White who explained the numerous options available to Stone students, especially those who don’t want to go down the traditional university route.

Philip said:  “For many young people, today sees the culmination of 14 years of study. Every one of them should be proud of their achievements, and I want to wish everyone receiving exam results every success in the future, whatever their next steps may be.

““There is now more choice than ever for post-18 education, whether that’s through a traditional university route, college, vocational qualifications or higher apprenticeships. This means that whether people get their predicted grades, or did better or less well than they expected and whatever environment they prefer to study in there are a huge range of options available.”

There are a number of areas experiencing growth in Staffordshire. These include advanced manufacturing, construction, and health and social care, meaning that qualifications such as apprenticeships and Higher National Diplomas could be just as significant as degrees in these sectors.

Philip continued:  “In Staffordshire, we want to be sure that students have access to the best education and are able to make real choices about whether their future is best served by pursuing an academic path or a vocational one.

“As a county we should be matching young people’s aspirations with their skills, so when it comes to those all-important decisions about further education and a career, they will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to pursue them.”

The county council’s website has a wealth of information about choosing the right path after A-Levels.  Visit www.staffordshire.gov.uk/learningroutes to learn more.
